October Field Trip

Ghost Tour at New Madrid

Sunday, October 16th at 2:00pm

It is time once again for our annual Heartland Writers Guild field trip.

We are in for a treat (no tricks!) this year as Christine McWaters takes us on a Ghost Tour of New Madrid, Missouri. Christine is the director of the New Madrid Chamber of Commerce and has been doing ghost tours a couple of years in the city. She has thoroughly researched New Madrid history and especially the history of the buildings on the tour.

Christine has consulted with professional ghost hunters from St. Louis and at each stop employs instruments such as infrared temperature sensors and voice recorders to detect the presence of New Madrid's unseen inhabitants. Any effects detected are actually occurring and not the result of something staged.

New Madrid has a long and colorful history beginning with many French settlers followed by the famous earthquakes of 1811-1812 and Civil War battles. Members are urged to bring spouses, significant others, family members, and friends to this exciting afternoon. Following the tour we will have dinner at Rosie's in New Madrid.

We will meet at the New Madrid Historical Museum at 2 PM
