2003 Children's
Writers Workshop
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -
The Heartland Writers Guild will present its 2003 Children’s
Writers Workshop on Saturday, June14, 2003, from 8:00 to 4:00
pm. The one-day
workshop will be held in the University Center at Southeast Missouri
State University
and will feature the following speakers:
Julia Messina is an
associate editor with CRICKET, the award winning fiction magazine
published by the Carus Publishing Company. She is responsible for
content development
of four CRICKET issues per year. Mrs. Messina provides proofreading,
copyediting and promotional services. She is currently coordinating
CRICKET’s
30th anniversary celebration. Mrs. Messina’s presentation will address
the topic of “How to Get Your Children’s Stories Published
in Cricket Magazine Group Publications.” She’ll address
the editorial needs for each of the literary magazines as well as
offer useful
information and insights into getting non-fiction work published
in the sciences and social studies publications of the Cobblestone
Group.
Sheila
Wood Foard has more than 60 publications in the fiction, non-fiction,
and poetry genres
to her credit. As a freelance writer, Mrs. Foard has a vast amount
of experience in many areas of writing. She is currently helping writers
fulfill their
publishing goals as an instructor with the Institute of Children’s
Literature. Mrs. Foard’s program will center on how “every
writer needs a writing coach.”
Jeanie Stewart has written
approximately twenty different picture, chapter, and series books.
Mrs. Stewart has taught writing for children in the biennial HWG Writers
Conference
in Sikeston, Missouri and is the Director of the Conan Memorial Library
in Hayti, Missouri. Mrs. Stewart will be discussing “strategies
designed to break into the publishing world, including ghost writing
and educational materials.”
