The Heartland Writers Guild functions as an organization dedicated to education and the promotion of professionalism in published and unpublished writers. The Guild provides encouragement and instruction through exclusive online access, monthly meetings, biennial workshops, and a nationally renowned biennial writers conference that brings writers throughout the country together with professionals from New York publishing houses and literary agencies.

The Guild is committed to the goal of helping all members successfully market what they write. We strive to provide quality programs each month conducted by published authors, teachers, or other persons with expertise in writing-related fields.

In addition, many meetings offer Q&A sessions during which members may ask questions and receive answers based on the varied experiences of their fellow writers.

Our monthly newsletter, the Heartland Writers Journal, keeps Guild members abreast of industry trends, upcoming workshops and conferences, monthly meeting topics, markets, membership information, member publication news, book signings, and writing tips.

Other membership benefits include discounts for a growing variety of Guild sponsored events/programs. Chief among these is the Discount Coupon offered in even-numbered years when HWG holds its biennial conference. This nontransferrable $20 coupon is provided to all members who pay their dues BEFORE January 1, and may be applied to the member's conference fee.

Officers are elected each October, and our workshops and conferences are guided by a Steering Committee. Every member of the Guild is encouraged to volunteer, to attend business and committee meetings, to freely express opinions and to enter his or her name into consideration for offices and committee membership. We welcome the active participation of all our members -- old and new.
